What we know and what we don't
- Known: the game launches digitally on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026 (local midnight). A PC release has not been announced.
- Known: Rockstar says the pre-load file requires up to 212 GB depending on your device. Pre-load opens 10 November: PS5 at midnight local time, Xbox Series X|S at 00:00 GMT worldwide.
- Not known: the exact size per console, the size of the day-one patch and whether a PC version will exist. Each is shown as "To be confirmed" until Rockstar publishes it.
- What a preload does: it downloads the game files before launch so only a short unlock step remains at release. It does not let you play early.
- Leave headroom: the listed size of a game is often smaller than the space needed during installation and patching. Treat any size from unofficial sites as a guess.
Free up space on PS5
- Open Settings → Storage → Console Storage → Games and Apps and sort by size.
- Delete games you will not play soon. Saved data is kept separately and the game stays in your library, so you can download it again.
- Check captures in the Media Gallery: video clips take far more space than screenshots.
- Internal vs external: PS5 games can be played from the internal SSD or from a compatible M.2 NVMe SSD in the expansion slot. A USB external drive can store PS5 games but not run them; it can run PS4 games. Check Sony's current speed and size requirements before buying an NVMe drive.
Free up space on Xbox Series X|S
- Open My games & apps → Manage (or Settings → System → Storage devices) to see usage per game.
- Uninstall what you are not playing. Your library and cloud-synced saves remain, so you can reinstall later.
- Remove unused apps and old captures too.
- Internal vs external: Xbox Series X|S games should run from the internal SSD or from the official Storage Expansion Card. A USB external drive can store Series X|S games but not run them; it can run Xbox One and backward-compatible titles.
