GTA 6 Pre-Load & Launch Day Checklist

With the install file requiring up to 212 GB, pre-loading ahead of time is critical. Tick items as you complete them — your progress is automatically saved on this device.

Confirmed facts (Rockstar, 3 Nov 2026): Pre-load opens 10 Nov 2026 (PS5 midnight local; Xbox 00:00 GMT worldwide). Launch is 19 Nov 2026 at local midnight on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-load does not allow playing early.

Checklist Progress 0 / 11 (0%)

Phase 1: Storage & Hardware (Before 10 Nov)

Free up at least 212 GB of internal storage

Rockstar confirmed GTA 6 needs up to 212 GB. We recommend leaving at least 250 GB free on your internal SSD or certified NVMe drive to allow room for decompression and the day-one update.

Set up a wired Ethernet connection if possible

A 212 GB file takes roughly 2.5 hours at 200 Mbps, but can take 8+ hours on slower Wi-Fi. A wired cable avoids Wi-Fi channel throttling during heavy peak traffic.

Update console system software and controller firmware

Go to Settings → System Software on PS5 or Settings → System → Updates on Xbox to ensure your console is running the latest operating system.

Phase 2: Store & Account Readiness

Confirm digital pre-order receipt in your console library

Verify the purchase under PlayStation Store Transaction History or Microsoft Account Order History. Both Standard ($79.99) and Ultimate ($99.99) include the 9-day pre-load window.

Enable Rest Mode / Instant-On background downloads

On PS5: Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode → "Stay Connected to the Internet". On Xbox: Settings → General → Power options → "Sleep".

Buying code-in-box? Mark 12 November on your calendar

Physical boxed copies sold at retailers arrive from 12 November 2026. The box contains a download code (no game disc). Redeem the code in your store as soon as you pick it up to start pre-loading before the 19 Nov launch.

Phase 3: Pre-Load Window (10 Nov – 18 Nov)

PlayStation 5: Start pre-load at local midnight on 10 Nov

PS5 pre-load rolls out sequentially at 00:00 local time in your country on 10 November 2026. If automatic download does not trigger, open your Game Library and select "Download".

Xbox Series X|S: Start pre-load at 00:00 GMT on 10 Nov

Xbox pre-load unlocks simultaneously worldwide at 00:00 GMT on 10 November (= 9 Nov 16:00 PT / 19:00 ET). Check the Xbox queue to ensure all packages finish.

Verify 100% download completion and lock state

The game tile will display a padlock with a countdown timer to 19 November midnight local. Remember: pre-loading does not allow playing early.

Phase 4: Launch Night (19 Nov 2026)

Midnight launch unlock & check for day-one patch

At local midnight on 19 November 2026, the digital padlock opens. Boot the game early to let any day-one hotfix finalize before diving into the prologue.

Grab the free printable cover poster and Leonida map
